Deer Camp 08

According to Grandpa Clark, during the past century the Clark's have only missed 2 deer hunts. This year Sambo continued the tradition as another generation was brought by horseback to deer camp. The weather couldn't have been any better for a 6 year old rookie. The Clark rules state "you have to be 8 years old to be in camp" but Sambo and Dad were anxious to get him up on the hill. After sitting on a VERY PACKED horse for about an hour Sambo decided he needed to give his legs a break, and ended up hiking roughly 5 miles up very difficult terrain. Everyone was amazed his little legs just kept moving, and for the record he NEVER complained. Once in deer camp he was just one of the guys. It is amazing how grown up he is getting. When asked what his favorite part of the hunt was he said "cleaning the deer was the grossest but coolest thing I have seen". I couldn't believe he could stomach it. Another highlight was carrying a pocketknife around and carving his initials in every aspen tree in sight. Mom, Millie, Will and Quincy came up Sunday to ride horses and greet the hunters. I had so much fun, I think I might roll the dice and take Wilbur up next year.

wait. the clark rules state you have to be 8.

well, who makes the rules? and, more importantly, who enforces the rules?

sounds like anarchy to me.

Dug, the Clarks take deer camp very serious. Keep in mind the tradition is well over 100 years old. It is a Clark man law that 8 is the golden age. Well that was true until this year.

Wow Sambo you are setting records! I was 8 when I went deer hunting my first time with Grandpa Tom. But we didn't get a deer until I was 11! Be sure to wear hunter's orange!
